There is indeed this shorter version: mvn archetype:generate -DarchetypeCatalog=http://tapestry.apache.org
as listed in the tutorial at http://tapestry.apache.org/creating-the-skeleton-application.html. Maybe we can add a note on the http://tapestry.apache.org/getting-started.html page about that alternative. I think it's kind of a toss up which way is better for beginners.
