On that note, I also recently deployed Tynamo's conversation example to GAE (see http://tynamo.org/tapestry-conversations+guide and http://tapestry-conversations.tynamo.org/), it was pretty straight-forwarded. It's all mavenized and naturally, the source is available for others to look at.
