Thanks for that. It wouldn't compile because servlet-api.jar wasn't in my class path. The reason I thought it had been removed was because I was using eclipses auto complete drop down list box to see what methods were available. For what ever reason Eclipse decides to not to show any entry at all for methods that use classes it can't find. That will teach me to rely on Eclipses Auto complete too much.
