The documentation is not outdated. The example in the tutorial works fine for Tapestry 4.1.2 If you would post the corresponding parts of your web.xml and hivemodule.xmlit would be easier to find your problem. And maybe some lines of the exception stack trace you are getting.

Also, If I happened to be new to Tapestry I would be offended by being told to buy a book because the examples in the documentation don't work. It wouldn't hurt to update the documentation on the site every now and again, would it?
