I've never been able to get Sitemesh to work with Tapestry, Dojo and friendly URLs. The most reliable solution was to write a custom URL encoder and differentially encode URLs based on the asset type, but even that wasn't 100%. I finally gave up and jettisoned Sitemesh from my project.

I'm using *.html as my "friendly URL" extension. I've experienced issues in the past when using .html with WebWork and Dojo. The strange thing is it works for some assets, but not others.
