Not sure what you mean, but if I have the following in a message catalog:

translateThis=Usage of <br>??

And the following in my html code:

<span jwcid="@Insert" value="message:translateThis"></span>

Then the resulting html code will be:

Usage of &lt;br&gt;??

When I use <br> Tapestry escapes the characters and renders as &lt;br&gt;
