Aah... I must have missed that bit of the fabulous manual... ;-(

If you are running amavisd, you can stop the spamd process -- it is just wasting resources.

Amavisd does use the SA config files for rule definitions, scores, etc. However, it has it's own settings for score thresholds, header and subject markup, and some other stuff.
