here's an idea:

remove the
/root/.cpan/ dir...

Update your ancient Centos version to Centos 5.11

reboot and see if the the problem automagically goes away.

If it doesn't we start again and this time we don't do cpan parties, ignore ppl using Fedora, etc,
only help you find the right rpms so you get back to normal operation.
