Something is really, really wrong here.  I'm guessing Amavis is the
culprit. :/

Difference this time vs last time is that it took 3 seconds for Amavis to tag it, vs 1 second or less last time. It definitely sounds like Amavis has a very low timeout somewhere that is aborting spam checks.
