That strongly suggests something in the environment of mail delivery is different than during manual testing.

The most likely problem is permissions. Verify the user that spamd is running under, it may be running as some user other than root; verify that the temp directories that FuzzyOCR uses are accessible to the user(s) that spamd is running as when a message is being scanned.

I took a quick look at the sources for jpegtopnm and could not see anything that would return an error code of 2048. What OS is this on?
