I apologize in advance if I seem a bit dim for this list - however it seemed
the best place to get answers on how to maintain the out of date
SpamAssassin install I have.

We are currently running SpamAssassin 3.2.4 on Mac OS 10.4.11 with a third
party helper program that has been out of support for a few years that helps
SpamAssassin talk to our e-mail server program that otherwise wouldn't
interface with SpamAssassin at all. Anyhow, this current configuration only
catches 20% out of all mail as spam, which is too low. I suspect what is
needed is to get SpamAssassin updated. Mac OS 10.4 came prepackaged with
SpamAssassin as I recall, but the third party/no longer supported tool also
had a SpamAssassin installer as I recall, so I may have as many as two
SpamAssassin folders on my machine, only one of which might actually be
doing anything.

My questions are these:

1. How can I determine where the running version of spamassassin is
located?

2. Where are the rules for spamassassin located?

3. Where are updates to rules logged (I suspect I haven't actually
received a rules update in over a year.

Thanks for any information people can provide and I apologize for any
questions that seem like they have obvious answers. I didn't see answers to
these in the FAQ and while I've occasionally been successful installing
programs from a command line interface, I'm not so great at it that I would
plunge into it blindly just yet.
