I think it's dumb on so many levels it's hard to know where to begin. 1) Having an Expires: header would make naive users think that it's actually technically possible to force their email messages to expire. 2) It would require buy-in from every MUA and MTA vendor. That will happen when Gadhafi renounces violence. 3) Even assuming some software honored the Expires: header, it would play havoc with email retention policies of receiving organizations. Some organizations are required to retain all email for a certain period of time. If you're an email sender and you want your message to expire after a certain period of time, keep dreaming: It's not possible. If you're an email admin and you want to clean up disk space, go tell your users that if they don't clean up their mailboxes, you will. Expiring email is another snake-oil technical solution to a social problem. Regards, David.
