if your IP is static (doesn't get allocated to others) and you have a "meaningful" reverse DNS, then it's (almost) ok. you will only have problems with sites that list your whole ISP ranges. but such sites may also block your ISP relays. I've seen sites block all of free.fr ranges because they used MAPS/TrendMicro lists. sigh... on the other hand: - if your IP is dyanmic (it gets allocated to other people), then it is good for you that we know that. otherwise, your IP may be listed in cbl/sorbs_web/..., and your mail may be tagged as spam even if you relay via your ISP. - if your reverse dns is "generic", then it is a sign that you are "nobody". so we can't give you a reputation based on your name. if we get spam from clients with similar generic names, then it is reasonable to block all such names. > I do have a substantial list of people who will not accept email if it is sent > to them directly. substantial? really? I would have thought these are a minority. would you share a list of those (offlist)? > For each of them I have an entry in my sendmail mailertable. > So if you see a domain that is not accepting from you because you're a > dynamic address then it's up to you to reroute your email.
