It could be any number of things.. Is 'exmapleBETA.tld' an a record for the
dns servers? Are the dns servers a records for the mx records?

What he is getting at is this:

For a given you have a few name servers. Spammers have a tendancy to not only try a domain's listed MX'es, but also at times tries to deliver directly to the listed DNS'es for a given domain. Since noone with a sane mail setup will do that or can be expected to get mail through that way, then if you install an SMTP server to listen on a server that is listed as a NS, but not an MX, for that domain will yield pure spam, which can be used for training.

I do it, it's a nice way to get a steady flow of spam to training, and it's usually nice, high scoring spam, so it creates little overhead admin wise.
