1. I am running Spamassassin from within MailScanner. I don't believe spamd would have to be restarted but I will try. 2. I don't think this is the case. When I added the rule it worked half way. the \i does not seem to work through.

There are two reasons this could happen. 1) You have not restarted spamd. spamassassin will run on whatever rules exist when you run the program, but spamd will not see new rules until you restart it. So you need to restart either spamd or amavisd (or possibly something else depending on your setup). 2) The SA that processes incoming mail is getting its rules from a different directory than the spamassassin program that you are using for testing. -- Bowie
