we DO reject at smtp-level if we are sure that the mail is spam.
you seem not to reject viruses at SMTP level ;) otherwise clamav couldn't score them :)
Or 1: they may use SpamAssassin during SMTP conversations in order to reject at SMTP level based on SpamAssassins score.
Or 2: They may reject viruses before calling SpamAssassin, but not reject all other stuff identified by ClamAV before calling SpamAssassin.
We do both here, using two ClamAV daemons and calling ClamAV amd SpamAssassin from a milter.
The dameon we check mail with before calling SpamAssassin only has the officlial signatures loaded, and has phishing signatures turned off.
The daemon that is used by the SpamAssassin ClamAV plugin has the default signatures, with phishing signatures turned on, the SaneSecurity signatures, the MSRBL signatures, and some other stuff as well.
