This is telling spamassassin to output the "sample-spam.txt" debug channel. You'll want to do something like: spamassassin -D < sample-spam.txt or spamassassin -D all sample-spam.txt > it works when I'm root. But when I'm a regular user this does nothing, just > hangs for many minutes with no output until I ctrl-c. Nothing to syslog.
