SA Upgrade questions

Can anyone shed any light on what happens to the SA rulesets eg. all 
the files in the /usr/share/spamassassin directory  when one does an 
upgrade from say the 2.64 version to the latest 3.15 version ?

Likewise, I assume that I CAN upgrade directly from this earlier 
version to the latest release ?   ie 2.64  >>  3.15
