Howdy,

I've been noticing an increasing amount of messages like this in my sendmail log:

Aug 15 05:01:35 mailserver sendmail[13287]: k7EJ1YE7013287: SYSERR(root): localhost.fabulous.com. config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?)

I couldn't back it up with statistics, but I'd swear there's an explosion of this kind of thing (DNSing a domain's MX to be '127.0.0.1' or similar) happening at the moment - noticing a lot of it in my logs, anyway.

Do people actively combat this somehow?

I was thinking it would be nice to have a mechanism whereby mail with an envelope domain whose MX was DNSed as localhost was rejected in the SMTP conversation (or perhaps discarded by SA during its checks).

Thanks,
Guy.
