We are on 8.1.1 but upgrading soon... shame Solr doesn't have a master command 
to turn replication off for all cores at once...

I would expect that to work.  Hopefully you're on the latest release in 
whatever major version of Solr you're running.

I *think* it would be a bug if that doesn't work.
