Solr rollback between minor versions

Hi,
We upgrading SOLR from 8.6.3 to 8.8.2
Everything works fine except rollback testing
When we do rollback, the indexes do not open due to the missing of the
codec. 8.6.3 cannot open indexes builded on 8.8.2
Of course we can reindex all the data, but it takes hours. Is there any
better approach to rollback to the previous version?
