hello you can use some random library or make a md5 of the time and process number There are many way to have an UID on Linux :) exemple in Shell : UID1="`date %s` $$" MYUID=`echo $UID1|md5sum` in MYUID you have a UID there are many libraries in PHP , PERL , Python to generate VCARD
