As you know there is mail contact object at least at Exchange 2010, regarding Exchange 2007, I don' t remember exactly.
Mail contact is user but not domain user, it is an external user (your customer personnel for example) and he/she coulnd' t login to domain/mail/groupware, that is they don' t have login accessibility.
