Maybe you could give a try to "openvz-diff-backups"? https://www.openvz-diff-backups.fr => README, configuration file and source code are written in English. This tool was designed to do backups but also to be able to move/restore containers from one system (ex: Proxmox) to another one (ex: OpenVZ 7). Note: it only works with OpenVZ containers.
