Hi Joe,

You don’t need to download ez-template before caching – vzctl/vzpkg could do
that job. Note also that if your node has an internet access and standard
repositories configured:
vzpkg list –O –available
will display list of available EZ OS templates.

Best regards,
Konstantin

Hi Kir,

Thanks for the reminder. Actually, vzctl create did download the template and
create the container, once I worked around the issue of /var/tmp needing to be
ext4.

But the corresponding ez-template packages need to be installed, I think, and
that's what threw me, since there was nothing like that in the openvz that I
had used from 2010 onward. At any rate, I'm happy to see the ez templates in
openvz. It's a very good feature.

Joe

Hi

yes, because Virtuozzo doesn't use precreated OpenVZ templates.
Proper way is:
- install required template via yum (CentOS 6 x86_64 installed by default)
- run something like: prlctl create 100 --ostemplate centos-6-x86_64 --vmtype=ct
prlctl will create cache and then create container

As far as I know, vzctl create (as well as prlctl create) should trigger
template metadata installation and "vzpkg create cache". It's not happening,
so looks like a bug.

Just in case -- if I'm wrong and vzctl is not able to trigger template metadata
installation and cache creation, the error message should be more
clear.

We will publish template management guide on http://docs.openvz.org/
but right now you can use the same doc from Virtuozzo 6 page -
http://www.odin.com/products/virtuozzo/documentation/

Hello,

Following up, it appears that my only problem was that one now must create
an OS template cache, as in PVC, and the documentation on the wiki did not
yet reflect that fact - but once the template cache is created, everything
falls into place. The old precreated templates are apparently not used.

Hello,

it appears the bugzilla is not accepting bug reports for openvz 7 yet - at
least there was no option to select rhel/centos 7 as the platform.

At any rate, when I googled the error, I found several people asking about
this show stopper, but nobody answering. Any pointers as to what I can try
would be appreciated.
