Maddening problem here.
FYI: I only occassionally use the word processor. I am a programmer.
My wife is having this problem:
1)She creates page numbers for a document. 2)She creates footers for the same document. 3)She removes the page number on the first page.
She saves the document and when it is re-opened, all page numbers
and footers are gone!

What is going wrong here? I just numbered the pages in a two-page
document, saved it and re-opened it and the page numbers where still
there. Her document has 17 pages.

Looking forward to comments.
thanks

She needs to create a Page style for each type of page used. For the FirstPage leave the footer turned off, on the MainPage turn the footer on. I would suggest that she get copies of the Writer's User Guide, the IntroductionToStyles and WorkingWithStyles chapters explains how to setup and use Styles. The files can be found at http://www.odfauthors.org/openoffice.org/english/userguide3/writer3/wg3.2-published , I would also suggest the WorkingWithTemplatesInWriter chapter. Using templates saves having to reformat the styles when starting a new project.

If you need help setting this up send me an email off list.
