Text boxes in Text documents

Dave (Moderator?) said to got to VIEW, toolbars , drawing, select Text box and 
simply drag it to the size you want and when you release the mouse key the 
insert icon will appear and you just start typing.But when I do that, when I 
release the mouse button the green "resize squares appea but no insert ico and 
when I try to type, I get a series of gongs and no text appearsAny 
suggestions?Frank
