If you downloaded the Windows version, I think there is only supposed to be one file (exe). Install exactly like you install everything else. If you got a lot of files, it seems like you downloaded a Linux version, which you only should do if you are using Linux, of course. You don't need an account. >From where did you download Apache OpenOffice? You should download it from http://www.openoffice.org/download only.
I haven't used Apache OpenOffice for a very long time, but I guess someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
