What operating system and version? I assume since version of windows. I am not well versed in file permissions on windows or Mac (Linux I know well)
Are you able to find your files with the file explorer? If you right click on n a file and look at the properties are you able to see fine ownership? Is the file set to be read only? Can you make a copy of the file? Then use the copy until the permission thing is figured out?
