OpenOffice is _NOT_ a Microsoft Office clone and has its own way of doing things. These are well set out in Writer for Students (several languages), downloadable from http://openoffice-uni.org You would be well advised to read that document. An old computer will only run older versions of Windows, most of which are now out of support. It is possible to change the operating system on older computers to a version of linux and run OpenOffice and many other programs (note: in their linux versions).
