Alan, Thank you for the speedy response. I agree with your suggestion and will reinstall OpenOffice. I've been using OpenOffice for almost 10 years without an issue. Not certain from the description what steps you take to experience the problem. That said, suggest you try installing OpenOffice again. If the installation has become compromised in some way, installing again should resolve the problem.
