Also, check the actual file names on the desktop and in your application folder
The download file is "Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.6_MacOS_x86-64_install_en-US.dmg"
The program file in Applications, if properly installed is "OpenOffice.app"
The .dmg install file can be deleted after OpenOffice is installed.

My previous query:
/My challenge is figuring out *how to remove the OpenOffice icon from the Mac desktop,*
without the program quitting./
/Already have O.O. software installed in my MacBook Pro Applications folder, along with an
alias./
/If I right click on the O.O. desktop icon, and select “Eject OpenOffice” from the pop-up
list, notice appears, “The disk 'OpenOffice' wasn’t ejected because one or more programs may
be using it.” /
The /“Eject OpenOffice”/ notice means you are running OpenOffice from the .dmg file you
downloaded and have not properly installed OpenOffice.
See this page for install instructions:

Or search Mac Help on your computer for "Install and uninstall apps from the Internet or disc
on Mac"
