It's not "my" or "our" anything, in fact: subscribers to the Users mailing list are other users of OpenOffice - just like you. And there is no such thing as the "latest version": versions have numbers, and should always be identified using them.

I noticed that one of calc file did not require a password anymore. I went in your tools and re-created a pass word to protect the document. When I re-opened the document still no password required. went again the tools protect doc and there I got a popup that said unprotect the document. which means the protect command does not work properly.

The only bug may be in your understanding of how password protection works.

o In order to prevent the opening of a document file in OpenOffice without the password being provided, you need to set the password using the "Save with password" option in the Save As dialogue. This is the only secure from of protection.

o The facility you describe - at Tools | Protect Document - is for a different purpose. You can choose whether spreadsheet cells are protected against accidental changes, whether formulae can be viewed from within the program, whether cells are visible, or whether cells can be printed. To use this, you need first to protect relevant cells at Format | Cells... | Cell Protection | Protection. Note that all cells are protected in this way by default. To make your protection choices effective, you must then use Tools | Protect Document > | Sheet... . The related facility at Tools | Protect Document > | Document... protects instead higher-level properties of the document, such as the number, names, and order of the spreadsheet's sheets. You can choose to apply a password to these protections or not.

I trust this helps.
