every time you open a document OpenOffice creates lock file of the file .~lock.filename.xxx# where filename is the name of your document and xxx is the file type, IE .odt, ods etc. This lock file prevents multiple people from gaining write access to the file simultaneously. When you close the file normally the lock file is deleted. It sounds like the lock was file was not deleted. This usually happens if the file is not properly closed due to a power failure or premature closing of the lid on a laptop. To regain access to your document go to the folder that the document is in and delete the lock file. Regards Keith
