Thanks for all the suggestions, people ! 1. I meant OO 4.1.2 and OO 4.1.3 .... such a back to the future mistake.
2. Every attempt to start OO had the busy cursor flash for a moment before the screen sat still for ever. 3. I've started up Task Manager and searcher for any Quickstarter or OO process without success. There's no Quickstarter visible in the taskbar. 4. The popup notice said "Please exit OO 4.1.3 and the OO 4.1.3 Quickstarter before you continue. If you are using a multi-user system, please make sure that no other user has 00 4.1.3 open" - I'm told my JPG attachment got shunted off my last message. Thanks for all the suggestions so far but I seem to be stuck with this puzzle....
