Try to reset your profile as described here: https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=12426#p58403 It should take care of the spell check.

I have Open Office 4.1.3 and the spell checker will not connect to the dictionary. It tells me that the dictionary is installed and I have the language set to English. Yet, EVERY word is red-underlined as misspelled. I even removed Open Office, rebooted, and re-installed Open Office. No fix. What can I do?
