I'm not familiar with Family Search and Family Tree Legends, but in
general I'd think that, whatever software you were running on your old
machine, you probably want to get it for your new machine also, if
it's still available. If you do get the same software for the new
machine, I don't understand why you would need to type in any of your
existing data. Presumably you could then open your existing data files
in the same way that you're used to doing?
But I don't really understand when you say that you had all your
documents in Excel. Are you saying that you opened PAF and FTL files
with Excel? If so, can't you open them with OpenOffice Calc?
(I'm cc'ing the [email protected] list so other people can
benefit from any assistance you get and also so other people can
contribute. You should also include the list in your replies.)

Dear Robert
Thank you so much for your quick reply, Dell sent me the link to Open Office
4.12 I am finding this a very good program hopefully I will be able to open
Family Search and Family Tree Legends soon and also open them on my flash
drive.
I used Office 2003 Proffessional for Windows XP and I had all my documents on
Microsoft Excel. My Dell laptop andesktop Windows XP are still workjing but I
bought Windows 10 as they are not secure now every day I regret it I loved
Windows XP it was so easy to use.
Thank you again, does this mean I have got to download Family Search and
Family Tree Legends onto Windows 10 to get it work? I hope not as there is a
lot of data I will have to type it would be so much easier if I could just
put it on from the flash drive (if I can get this to work), all my other
documents are working.
Regards
Iris

What software did you use to open the files under Windows XP? I see PAF
and FTL both identified as files for family-tree software. If that's what
they are, you'll need to transfer your family-tree software to your new
system. OpenOffice can't be expected to know what to do with them.
