Apache OpenOffice does not produce docx files. There is no effort to provide docx output at this time. There are free products that do feature interoperable support for docx and the other OOXML formats (xslx, pptx, etc.). Users who make us of such products can give suggestions based on their experience. I do not use any of those for working in docx so I have no informed recommendations.
