If the beginning of the file is corrupt, it will be impossible to salvage anything. The best chance of recovering it would be to take the hard drive out of the computer and try to find an uncorrupted copy of the file. You can search for a copy without removing the drive, the danger is the OS might overwrite the file, which becomes
more likely the longer it's using the drive.
