El Capitan":
Dear Sir/Madam
I have attempted to download Open Office for my iMac with OS X version 10.11.1,
Al Capitan but all that happens is that I get a virtual hard drive on my
desktop and nothing in the applications folder, which is where I would expect
it to be after downloading. I am new to Apple, I also have a head injury which
makes things harder to understand. A friend who uses Open Office regularly
though his own business is totally baffled by this and suggested that after an
hour of trying to download it, I get in touch with you to ask your opinion
please. Thank you.
You have to install Apache OpenOffice after you download it. Open the .dmg file you downloaded
and follow the instructions.
Since you are new to using Macs you should run, not walk to your nearest book store or library
and get a good basic book on using OS X.
