Tom, This is a function of the "Gatekeeper". To get around this the first time you open Open Office "right click" or "cntl-click" on the Open Office icon. This will bring up a dialogue box that will give you the option of allowing the program to start. You will be able to open it afterward with a normal double click (or single click from the Dashboard) until you down load an update.
