Hello. My name is Hélio. I am a long-time user of OpenOffice and love the software. I wish to continue using it, but, unfortunately, I've been having this problem for a while (over 8 months), and it's really getting on my nerves.
Long story short, saving any file, regardless of size, takes several (5-10) seconds. This is quite annoying, as I save very often (I write a lot, and I don't want to risk losing any of my work). I'm using Apache OpenOffice 4.0.1, as I couldn't even get the 4.1.0 to run (after opening anything, it would crash and never open anything ever again unless I reinstalled it, restarting the cycle all over again). I believe this started when I switched from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1. This is not an antivirus issue. I have disabled my antivirus, and the issue remains. I have tried disconnecting from the Internet (I searched for a solution and this was one of them). I have tried changing the "My Documents" folder path on OpenOffice. I have tried resetting my profile (in fact, I deleted the whole thing back when I couldn't get the 4.1.0 to run a couple of days ago). I tried disabling hardware acceleration (I recalled some programs that had an issue with this and decided to try it just for the sake of it). My computer is custom-built, with 8 GB DDR3 of RAM, an internal 500GB HDD, another, external, 1TB HDD's, i7-4770 CPU @ 3.4 GHz, and (not that I think it matters, but I'm no software savvy) an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 graphics card. Short of getting a new OS, I think I've tried just about everything, or at least everything I could find. Nothing works. The files are tiny. My largest file is 55KB. If you could find a solution for this problem, I'd be very grateful. PS: In case anyone has any problems with something that also prevented me, at first, from making the upgrade from OpenOffice 3.4.1, I believe, to 4.0.1, here's some info about that: although I ran the unpacker as an administrator, for some reason, the unpacker could not write there. I don't know whether it was because the unpacker was on the external HDD or not. The solution was to change the unpacking directory to one on the external HDD (which, by default, doesn't require administrator access for anything).
