I've been using OpenOffice for more than 12 years, and the best reasons I can tell you is because you have a very efficient support system and also a long term relationship with a "Legal" software that won't let you down. OpenOffice have interesting technical features like the ability to be installed into a USB or SD card and be execute it from almost anywhere. Or even cloud services like rollapp which enable to pull it from a browser. However the best is the community that allow you to solve complex problems or even go beyond the office suite to integrate to enterprise applications.
