Normally deleting or renaming the OpenOffice User Profile cures 90% of 
spellcheck problems. If you have custom dictionaries/autotext entries the 
renaming is the way to go, as you can bring forward your customisation is the 
problem is solved.

Note that un/re-installing does not touch the User Profile, which is where the 
error lies.
