When I enter a formula , and get #NAME? for the result, did I do something wrong?

Maybe the problem is that you simply need to start the formula with an equal sign, e.g., =IF(A1=B75,"OK";"Not OK"). Just a guess.

Surely not, in fact? A formula without its leading equals sign is just a text string - a literal value which displays in the cell but has no effect as the formula it looks somewhat like.
