Save big file

I recently upgraded from ver3.3 to ver 4.0.
I work with a big (2.2 MB) text file. With ver3.3 it took 5 to 9 minutes to 
save the file, with ver4.0 it takes 29 minutes.
How can I speed it up?
I'm using Windows 7 as OS
