Ron, I use a Macbook Pro and you might want to check the folders and
files below Documents to see what permissions have been set on them.
If you transferred the folders as well as files from your XP machine,
the user id and permissions may not jive with your Macbook Pro
settings. Can you see the subfolders in Documents, but can't select
them, or can you not see them either? This question would apply to
both OpenOffice and other programs, including Finder.
Can you navigate to these folders using Finder? To check permissions,
in Finder click on a file or folder and press CMD-I. A window will open
and at the bottom of that window you should see "Sharing and
Permissions." If your permissions (including user ID) don't match who
you're logged in as, that would interfere with opening files.
If you double click on a file in Finder, will it open?

Keith,
My PC was Windows XP and I have transferred all of my documents from
the PC to the Mac. My Macbook is 10.8.2. I am having difficulty
getting past Documents to individual folders in saving on the Mac.
Thanks,
