Instead of opening it directly, save the target to a standard folder (in your
documents or where you usually download files) and then open it from OpenOffice
or double-click the file from your files browser.

I still see only a blank sheet. Using suse linux, LO, and when I go to
properties I don't see
an option to change it from read-only. Usually, witha read-only file, I
simply change its
name, but when I do that I still see only a blank sheet, with a Click Me
that doens't do
anything. I know I'm spending too much time on this, but maybe if I
succeed I will
learn something useful about LO and working with files.

Thanks for helping me on this. I do not know the read-only problem.

It's OK if anyone feels suspicious. I doubted it myself before I
sent it, that sending a document with macros publicly may cause
unnecessary panic. However, since it is cool and fun, and it's
Christmas, I sent it anyway.

It was a small game from my friends to draw Christmas trees with all
kinds of programming languages: C, C++, Objective-C, Java, Perl, PHP,
Python, Ruby, ... etc. After I contributed my Perl Christmas tree, I
thought maybe I can do it with OpenOffice BASIC.

This is our OpenOffice's way of Christmas greetings. I welcome
everyone to contribute their "OpenOffice Way" of Christmas greetings,
with or without macros.

The source is in the document and is free. You may check it if you
are interested in how I done it, maybe producing something similar, or
just simply to learn OpenOffice BASIC.

If you download the file it is saved with read only.
Under windows select Properties and deselect Read only.
