Perhaps it's worth showing a notice to users when a plugin like that is
installed. Users should be notified that installing such a plugin poses
both security and intellectual property (IP) risks.
I'm not suggesting that the plugin creator is doing anything malicious,
but even developing that kind of plugin in good faith carries inherent
risks — particularly for plugins using remote models (or remote services
in general). I don't think I've seen a privacy policy link in NetBeans
(it seems there’s only a Homepage link), but maybe there should at least
be a warning in the descriptions. I think the review process should
enforce adding a specific statement about security and IP risks. Would
be worth presenting a separate notice during installation (when a
licence is presented).
