If so, then it appears that the original source code includes Oracle proprietary code. Therefore, it will require Oracle to either release this code, or for them to update the whole C/C++ add-on.

I doubt either scenario is likely.

However, for the most part, I currently don't see a problem with using NB v21, though it would be nice
to see the C/++ add-on on a continuous update cycle.

Is known if it was ever asked? Or what part is non-releasable? If that part is easily replacable, and enough enthousiasm for it, it is doable.

Of course, if the language parser is non-releasable we are stuck. Or some assembly is required at the workstation of the user. Combining apache licensed jars, with non-apache licensed jars.

I've had a look at the "module group" "C/C++" and it looks like an enormous codebase. I'm not sure there is a group of people wanting to pull that one (as well).

It looks like it all resides under "org.netbeans.modules.cnd" and maven links to it, endup as dead-links:

https://bits.netbeans.org/maven2/org/netbeans/modules/org-netbeans-modules-cnd-utils/RELEASE802/org-netbeans-modules-cnd-utils-RELEASE802.pom

https://web.archive.org/web/20210415022023/https://netbeans.apache.org/about/oracle-transition.html

the project was named 'CND' and there is some offspring in the form of cpplite

https://github.com/apache/netbeans/discussions/5882

https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/cnd+integration+proposal%3A+cnd-small

So i guess, it was already tried, and this (cpplite) is what was salvable.
